In nature, cattleyas are found in the rainforests of Latin America, primarily in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, and Mexico. They are long-lived perennials and usually flower once a year. The plants have pseudobulbs, which are “false bulbs”, dormant buds at the base of the plant that eventually become new shoots. These shoots thicken to become pseudobulbs, which function as storage organs for nutrients. Lc Eximia var coerulea 'Sea God' is a beautiful fragrant Cattleya Orchid hybrid.
