About Cattleya Orchids
Cattleya Orchids

Cattleyas are widely known for their large and showy flowers; hence they are a natural favorite for corsages. They are also some of the most beautifully exotic and sumptuously fragrant flowers in the world.

In nature, cattleyas are found in the rainforests of Latin America, primarily in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, and Mexico. They are long-lived perennials and usually flower once a year. The plants have pseudobulbs, which are “false bulbs”, dormant buds at the base of the plant that eventually become new shoots. These shoots thicken to become pseudobulbs, which function as storage organs for nutrients.

Cattleyas are slow growing and take 5-7 years to flower from seed. Based on their parentage, cattleya flowers come in a variety of colors, including white, yellow, pink, green, lavender, purple, and red.
