About Cymbidium Orchids

Cymbidium Marie BashirCymbidiums are the best known and most widely grown of all orchids. They can survive in almost any place. They are large-flowered orchids, which originated and still grow wild in the higher regions of the Himalayas and other parts of the Orient and Australia.

Cymbidiums are not difficult to grow. They are propagated by rhizome division and thrive in bright, but indirect light. Lacking in light, cymbidiums will fail to bloom. They prefer to grow on fine orchid bark, in high humidity, and in temperatures of 60 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit at night.

Cymbidiums are said to be the oldest cultivated orchid, having been grown in China since the era of Confucius as evidenced by records from 500 BC.
