Orchid Potting Mixes
About Orchid Potting Mixes

Orchids usually grow in soilless mixes. Even known terrestrials should not be planted on the ground willy-nilly. Most orchids, we must remember, grow in very specific environments, the characteristics of which must be closely copied to promote successful growth of the plant.
Some of the materials used in orchid mixes are moss, sponge rock, granite chips, coconut husk, charcoal, aliflor, bark, pea gravel, etc. These materials have properties that can specifically cater to the needs of a plant. There are combinations designed for certain species, but they will also do well for other types. Veterans who are knowledgeable about the different requirements of their plants as well as the capabilities of various potting media can have their mixes custom blended according to their specifications.
